curlee,

Glad you are going to be a chef and not an English teacher :)

The ingredients in Kraft salad dressing are no big secret. A high school chemistry student could probably identify them. Kraft's competitors know everything that's in their products. They just buy them, take them back to their lab and analyze them. Kraft does the same with their competitor's products.

When one of their customers asks them about an ingredient that presents a food allergy and they refuse to answer it ... well, that's just irresponsible and downright shameful.

Also, the proportions for a vinaigrette are 3 parts oil to 1 part acid.

i say people get over it !!!
from kraft's point of view ,they can't start giving out information like that ,have you any idea how many competeitors they have ?? ok i understand, i myself work in a kitchen and one day intent on being a chef , allergies are very serious ,so in a case like this try to substitut there dressing for your own. a dressing is easy to make simply remember 2 parts oil 1 part vinegar, then add your own seasonings and wisk together till you achieve an imulsion.

My husband said Kraft's lawyers should be very worried about this too. Apparantly it is evidence against them if there is a lawsuit.

I'm just shocked at how thoughtless it was.

Oh My Lord!

I just made a copy of Michelle's incredibly callous response and am sending it to Irene Rosenfeld, CEO of Kraft.

I'm sure she will be as shocked as I am.

That is really wrong, Michelle. Why can't you make someone that is allergic aware that allergens are in your product?

Wrong, just wrong.

I work in a kitchen, and take allergies VERY seriously. I am surprised that a corporation like Kraft wouldn't.

Very troubling indeed.

Hi hilaryus,
I am sorry I can not be more helpful, but due to the sensitive nature of product formulas, information on specific spices in a product is confidential.

Hi there, I'm making dinner for my boyfriend, and he's allergic to Basil. I need to use Balsamic Vinaigrette in my recipe, and I was wondering if there was Basil in it? All it says in the ingredients list is "spices and herbs". I don't particularly want to kill him tonight, haha :P.
